Is aluminum wiring a problem in older 55+ homes?

Short answer: It can be. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says homes wired between 1965 and the mid-1970s may have aluminum branch-circuit wiring, and its connections can overheat and become a fire hazard. CPSC recommends a qualified electrician for a permanent repair: rewiring with copper, or using the connectors CPSC recognizes (COPALUM or AlumiConn). Ask your inspector to check for it.
